The Department of Environmental Health and Sanitation Education, AAMUSTED Mampong Campus, is hosting Ms. Fleur Heeremans, a Civil Engineering student from TU Delft, Netherlands, for a collaborative research project. This initiative is part of the ongoing partnership between AAMUSTED and TU Delft, aimed at promoting academic and staff exchange, as well as joint research activities.
Supported by the TU Delft Global Initiative, Ms. Heeremans will work closely with Ing. Prof. Isaac Monney and Mr. George Agyen Kyei to design and test a pilot-scale carwash wastewater recycling system in Mampong-Ashanti, as part of her Bachelor’s thesis. This project addresses a significant environmental concern in Ghana, where carwash stations use clean water and release heavily polluted wastewater into the environment.
Building on earlier research by Ing. Prof. Monney and Mr. Kyei, who successfully developed and tested a bench-scale recycling system, this project aims to scale up the technology and evaluate its effectiveness in real-world settings. The ultimate goal is to develop a sustainable solution to mitigate environmental pollution caused by the carwash industry in Ghana. This collaborative research project demonstrates AAMUSTED’s commitment to addressing pressing environmental challenges and promoting innovation through international partnerships.
