Following a successful third-round visit on programme assessment and accreditation, the Allied Health Professions Council (AHPC) has given administrative approval for four (4) programmes at the Faculty of Environment and Health Education (FEHE) of the Asante Mampong Campus of Akenten Appiah-Menka University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development. The programmes are:
- Sc. Environmental Health and Sanitation Education
- Sc. Public Health (Nutrition)
- Sc. Public Health (Disease Control)
- Sc. Public Health (Promotion)
The five (5) year accreditation status for the programmes was conveyed in a letter from AHPC dated November 12, 2024 to AAMUSTED.
The last visit of the AHPC Team, on Wednesday, 30th October 2024, was led by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Daniel Atta-Nyarko with four other members namely Dr Justice Ofori-Amoah (Council Member), Mr. Farouk Alhassan (Head of Education and Training) Mr. Clement Adjei (Head, Kumasi Zonal Office, AHPC). The team was received on behalf of Management by the Campus Registrar Mr. Richard Kwadwo Mprah who represented the Principal, Prof. Dr. Isaac Abunyuwah, on the Asante Mampong Campus, together with the Dean of the Faculty Prof. Bismark Dwumfour-Asare, Heads of Department – Ing Prof. Isaac Monney (Environmental Health and Sanitation Education), and Rev. Dr. Denis Dekugmen Yar (Public Health Education), Prof. Richard Amankwa Kuffour (immediate past Dean), Ag. Deputy Director, Academic Affairs, Mr. Osei-Bediako Appau and five other faculty members.
The meeting, which was about the third visit by the AHPC since registration of programmes began in 2021, was held at the Chapel Extension Conference Room to finalise accreditation processes. Mr. Richard Kwadwo Mprah (Campus Registrar), welcomed the delegation on behalf of the Principal and expressed profound appreciation for the visit made by the AHPC Team. As the Chairperson for the occasion, he further stressed Management’s unflinching support to bringing closure to the accreditation processes as required by AHPC. The discussions started after cordial introduction from both sides with co-facilitation by the Dean Prof. Dwumfour-Asare and Dr. Ofori-Amoah.
The Dean Prof. Bismark Dwumfour-Asare pledged the commitment of his team to continue working together with AHPC to provide the needed training and education for students on the programmes. The Heads of Department, Ing. Prof. Isaac Monney and Rev. Dr. Denis Dekugmen Yar highlighted provisions made with the support of Management to deliver quality training at AAMUSTED. They expressed delight in the successful completion of the accreditation processes so far and the Departments’ readiness to register students and staff who qualify to be members of the AHPC.
The Ag. Registrar for AHPC, Mr. Daniel Atta-Nyarko, reiterated the mandate of AHPC (under the Health Professions Regulatory Bodies Act 857, 2013) and its commitment to discharge duties as the regulator for the interest of all stakeholders including meeting international best practices. He applauded the University’s commitment to work with AHPC in getting programmes accredited, and further advised that any future programmes should be duly registered according to the laid down rules and processes. The call was iterated by the other team members in support of the regulatory position of the AHPC. Mr. Clement Adjei, the Head of Kumasi Zonal Office, AHPC, was officially introduced to AAMUSTED for proximity and quick correspondence in case of any need for technical support from AHPC.
In his vote of thanks, Prof. Richard Amankwah Kuffour expressed AAMUSTED’s profound gratitude for all the technical support and guidance over the years. He prayed for a continuous healthy relationship between the two government agencies – AAMUSTED as a public university and AHPC as a regulator in charge of allied health professions training and education in Ghana.
