Recently celebrating its inaugural graduation in 2024, this innovative program has already begun making waves in the field of environmental stewardship and conservation.

The program is housed within the Faculty of Agriculture Education, led by Prof. Mrs. Margaret Esilfie. The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences Education, which runs the program, is headed by Prof. Stephen Larbi-Koranteng. Practical Learning Beyond the Classroom

Recently, students embarked on an enriching educational trip to the scenic Bono East region. The trip included visits to iconic landmarks such as the Kintampo Waterfalls and the thrilling Kintampo Canopy Walk, offering a firsthand encounter with Ghana’s natural beauty. Additionally, students explored the Buabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary, gaining insights into wildlife conservation efforts firsthand.

Highlighting the program’s commitment to practical education, in a related development, students also had the opportunity to visit the Forest Research Institute of Ghana (FORIG) in Fumesua. Led by Rev. Kwame Nkrumah Hope, this educational tour provided invaluable experiences at the Institute’s Tree Seedlings Nursery, the National Tree Seed Centre, and the Wood Furniture Testing Centre. Explorations extended to the Bobiri Forest Reserve and Butterfly Sanctuary, fostering a deep appreciation for biodiversity conservation and sustainable forestry practices.

Students get the unique opportunity to explore a wide array of disciplines: forestry, wildlife management, environmental science, and sustainable development, among others, under the mentorship of experienced faculty members and experts from the industries.

Beyond the Classroom Practical Learning

Among others, students recently undertook an enriching educational tour within the beautiful region of Bono East. The places visited, amongst others, were the Kintampo Waterfalls and the Kintampo Canopy Walk, so thrilling and very interactive, allowing a first-hand experience with nature in the country. Students also visited the Buabeng Fiema Monkey Sanctuary to get up close and personal with the conservation of wildlife.
