We are excited to share that six Environmental Health students from AAMUSTED have won a US$2,500 grant to support a climate change project in Kumasi!
The team — Iddrisu Isaac, Emmanuel Armah, Owusu Forson, Joana Dede Awaitey, Christiana Agyeiwaah, and Mahama Adams — developed a compelling proposal on climate resilience and sustainability. Their idea stood out among many and was selected as one of 26 projects to be funded under the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA) Youth Climate Action Fund, with support from Bloomberg Philanthropies.

At a short ceremony on 4th April 2025, the students received the first tranche of their grant. Working closely with their technical advisor, Ing. Prof. Isaac Monney, they will roll out a project that sets up plastic banks in selected schools. Through these plastic banks, students will be rewarded for collecting plastics, encouraging recycling habits, raising funds for their schools, and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility.
This initiative ties directly into the Kumasi Climate Action Plan 2025 and addresses critical environmental challenges while empowering young people to lead meaningful change.
We are incredibly proud of Ing. Prof. Isaac Monney and the Big Six for their innovation and commitment. Their success once again highlights AAMUSTED’s dedication to real-world impact and leadership in environmental health and sustainability.
Congratulations to the team — we look forward to seeing the positive difference you will make!
